LE GROUPE TRAQ

(Transport by Rail in Quebec)…

Who are we ?

        Founded in 1987 by some employees of  the CN (Canadian National), the Action Committee of Québec CN  employees (CAECNQ) and its 500 members at the time, had as its main objective to save the jobs of railroad employees.   As such  it was the true precursor of CFILINQ, of  the ULTRATRAIN and of several new CFILs in Québec.

Later on, in 1990, once the CN had  stopped cutting jobs, the group changed its name to become the CMUAR (Coalition for the preservation and increase use of railways).  It was mostly active in saving  the track section between Charny and  Harlaka and to this end it presented  a petition of 11,827 signatures to Ottawa.

Le Groupe TRAQ headquarters are situated in the Charny municipal district of the city of Lévis. The group has been known by this name since the year 2000 only,  and  its mission is to:

  1. promote the utilization and the developpement of railway transportation;
  2. to promote safety measures in railway exploitations;
  3. to help in the  conservation of all existing railway infrastructures in Québec;
  4. to preserve and  circulate all pertinent railway documentation;
  5. to publish a  French language bulletin dedicated to railway activities that are taking place principally in the province of Québec;
  6. to secure the preservation of all materials, artworks and photograhs related to the history of railroads that have  been  received as gifts or acquired by purchase.

Le Groupe  TRAQ is a division of  the Canadian  Railway Museum (EXPORAIL) and is affiliated to Transport 2000 Canada and to Transport 2000 Québec. The Group  brings a major contribution to  the Service of Arts and Culture of the city of Lévis. Moreover, the Group  organizes an annual symposium and railway exhibition for the province of Québec with the cooperation of  the Québec Ministry of Transports and Transports Canada.
